“Maths — No Problem! provides the perfect vehicle to promote and develop our school’s key principles. Our five school values are evident in all lessons — working together, kindness, independence, respect and excellence. The programme also gives us the opportunity in every lesson to promote reading and to teach vocabulary supported by visual materials, and to place a high emphasis on oracy and cooperative learning underpinning all of our work.” —Alison Wallis, Headteacher

In Their Own Words

Our Maths – No Problem! Journey

As a school we were excited about adopting the Singaporian approach to the teaching of maths. The headteacher and deputy headteacher attended a Maths — No Problem! event in London in the Spring of 2015 to find out more.

The day was so inspiring that it convinced us to forge ahead with adopting the programme. The fact that the programme is evidence based convinced us even further. After Easter 2015, we began teaching Maths — No Problem! in Years 1 and 2. The programme was rolled out year on year until we were teaching it across the whole school.

Once the Reception Year materials — the Foundations programme — were published we adopted these to ensure full consistency across the whole school.

We quickly identified that high quality training was key to the success of the programme, something we still prioritise for staff at all levels. Having access to the full range of training opportunities including face-to-face sessions, online webinars and the online Academy is invaluable. We also value the opportunity to visit the Accredited Schools and the option to bring in Maths — No Problem! trainers for bespoke CPD.

Ofsted identified that in maths, pupils develop passion and skills through exploring solutions using their journals and this is well embedded.
