Teaching Maths for Mastery Course

Learn how to put decades of pedagogical theory into classroom practice

Why is it that big pedagogical ideas rarely translate into practical common-sense teaching techniques?

If you struggle with structuring effective maths lessons, meeting the needs of all learners, or using research-based pedagogy in a practical way — this one-day PLD course is for you.

Learn how to take decades of pedagogical theory and distill it into an effective teaching framework that helps children learn mathematical concepts in greater depth.

The Singapore method of teaching maths for mastery is a proven approach that boosts teaching confidence, subject knowledge, and fosters an in-depth understanding of mathematics in students of every attainment level.

Now, this game-changing approach has arrived in New Zealand!

And the best part? No prior experience with MNP or maths mastery is required. This PLD course is designed for anyone looking to make the right maths changes in their primary school. Wherever you’re at on your maths journey, we’re excited to have you.

Seats are just $260 +GST. Seating is limited.

Over a few hours you’ll learn

  • How to foster problem-solving and critical thinking skills in your classroom
  • Why mathematical concepts need to be understood both procedurally and relationally
  • The forward-thinking strategies that have kept Singapore at the top of the TIMSS scale, including visualisation, bar modelling, and the Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract approach (CPA)
  • The order to teach mathematical concepts in
  • How to develop metacognition in your learners
  • Skills to support your struggling learners and challenge your advanced learners
  • How to structure an effective three-part lesson

  • Practical teaching techniques you can use in your class the next day!

Who should attend

Primary school teachers, principals, and anyone looking to make maths better for everyone in their school. HODs will find value in the research and theory covered but note that any practical examples are designed with Years 1–8 in mind.

No experience with maths mastery or MNP is needed or expected.

Alex Laurie: NZ Lead Trainer

Alex is a primary school teacher from New Zealand. She first became aware of the Singapore approach while teaching in England. Recognising the significant impact it had on her own teaching, and her students’ results and enthusiasm for the subject, she joined Maths — No Problem! with the belief that Aotearoa New Zealand schools could benefit from the same opportunities the approach provided teachers and students in England.
