Dr Yeah Ban Har: Consultant

Dr Yeap Ban Har is the world’s leading expert on the Singapore method and is the technical consultant for the Maths — No Problem! Series.

An accomplished and inspirational trainer, Ban Har spent 10 years at the National Institute of Education in Singapore where he was involved in several funded research programmes in mathematics education. Ban Har was part of the team which reviewed the Singapore maths curriculum for the revised 2013 syllabus and he teaches courses at tertiary institutions in South East Asia and North America.

9:15 Learning Experiences and Lesson Structure
Using a case study on a topic beyond whole numbers and fractions, participants are encouraged to raise questions about lesson structure and learning experiences that lead to mastery.

10:45 Advanced Bar Model
We revisit word problem solving and look at the progression of skills while using bar models in more sophisticated ways in order to solve challenging problems.

13:15 Consolidation Tasks
Consolidating students’ understanding is a critical part of the learning process. We reexamine and deepen our understanding of previously discussed consolidating activities including practice and journal writing.
