Course Objectives
This teacher professional development course is specifically designed to provide an understanding of several key concepts:
- Mathematics is a language. It is crucial that children learn how to effectively speak, read, and write it.
- Journalling acts as a powerful tool for pupils to express their mathematical understanding and ideas in writing.
- Integrating simple descriptive journals into classroom activities can lead students to rapidly develop deeper and more complex thinking.
- Journalling offers a strategy for teachers to accurately assess pupils' grasp of mathematical concepts.
Participants will leave this course with a detailed understanding of the different types of journals, the practical application of journalling, and how to utilise journalling for continuous formative assessment.
The course aims to provide educators with practical strategies for incorporating journalling practices into their classrooms. It will also equip them with the tools needed to support their pupils in seeing themselves as confident learners of mathematics.
