Why math mastery?

It’s proven to work.
Students are 117%
more likely to exceed
the standard expectations
set by the government in the UK
Mastery mindset
Rather than teaching to get right answers, focus on developing deep understanding before moving forward.
Spiral curriculum
Revisit concepts over time, each time with greater depth to build on past learning and encourage throughout understanding.
Scaffolding
Provide support to learners as they learn concepts, gradually pulling back support, until they can solve problems independently.
Problem-solving
Build strong problem-solving skills, so that rather than a set of rules, learners are using their critical thinking skills.
CPA approach
Teach concepts by transitioning from Concrete demonstrations, to Pictorial representations and finally to Abstract symbols.
Fluency and reasoning
Encourage students to reason, discuss their thinking, as well as take what they’ve learned and apply it in a variety of situations.
Our key theorists

Jerome Bruner
Suggested Discovery Learning, created Three Modes of Representation (CPA), coined the Spiral Curriculum for deep learning, and introduced Scaffolding for learner support.

Jean Piaget
Proposed four cognitive stages in learning, believed development is driven by biology and environment, and emphasized learning through world interaction and self-discovery.

Lev Vygotsky
Introduced Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), supported learning through social interaction where pupils are challenged beyond current abilities with support from others.

Richard Skemp
Distinguished relational from instrumental understanding, and advocated teaching for deeper mathematical comprehension, not rote learning.

Zoltan Dienes
Promoted manipulatives in math, introduced Base 10 blocks for place value, and emphasized engaging, enjoyable math learning through games, songs, and dance.

Benjamin Bloom
The idea of math mastery is rooted in Bloom’s Taxonomy which a hierarchy of learning objectives that reflect the phases of learning we all pass through on our way to deep understanding.
Exceed expectations for disadvantaged students
280%
more likely to exceed
the standard expectations set by the government in the UK if they are disadvantaged pupils
Visual Considerations
With meticulous attention-to-detail in the design and layout, our program prides itself on being accessible, ensuring effectiveness for all learners. With dyslexia-friendly design, color vision deficient considerations, cognitive load management and visual clarity, our program is accessible and inclusive for all students. Also, the Pomegranate platform allows teachers adjust their experience to their own needs, such as enlarging fonts for easier viewing.
Accessible to all
We use purpose built fonts, adequate spacing, color schemes carefully selected to be distinguishable for colour vision deficiencies, and visually clear images for those with visual processing difficulties. Our materials are structured to optimize information processing and our digital platform meet the WCAG 2.2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) Level AA allowing for maximum inclusivity.
