Inset Days

Customised training for your school

Inset in action

We offer inservice training to support teachers who are implementing the Maths — No Problem! Programme.

Watch Louise Freir demonstrate the importance of language-use during problem solving, as well as a physical way a word problem can be initially accessed by learners.

Why inservice training may be the best option for you and your school

Get staff quickly up to speed

Designed to get your whole team on the same page, these hands-on sessions will crystalise the approach and build knowledge and confidence. You'll see immediate results, including stronger motivation, increased proficiency and faster programme implementation. Get new staff trained quickly or senior leaders up to speed.

Help at every step

We support you at every step, whether you're new to the mastery approach or an experienced leader. Our many options for enhanced CPD include advanced and specialised courses, refreshers and more. Let us help you bring your maths teaching to the next level.

Customised to your needs

We structure your inservice training to make sure you get the most from your time and investment. Our expert-led sessions cover key learning theories and tools to help you successfully implement the Maths — No Problem! Programme.

Flexible scheduling and delivery

The training schedule can be delivered face-to-face in your school over a twilight, half-day or full-day session. We can also provide training virtually via Zoom or Google Meet.

I feel more confident to support the children with maths. I found many aspects of this training fascinating and will look at mathematics very differently in future.

– Lisa Willis, Wimborne First School, Dorset

Inset options

No two schools or classrooms are alike. That’s why we offer a variety of inservice options that can be combined and customised to create a training experience that works for everyone.

For schools new to the mastery approach, we recommend the two-day training. This is what a typical two-day training session looks like:

Day 1: Getting Started with the Programme

The first day focuses on how to implement Maths — No Problem! in your school. You'll explore how to use the textbook, workbook and teacher guides to plan and teach effectively. You'll look at lesson structure, classroom routines and how the materials support whole-class learning, differentiation and deep understanding from the very start.

Day 2: Embedding Effective Practice

Delivered later in the term, the second day helps schools reflect on early experiences and focus on embedding Maths — No Problem! in everyday teaching. You'll explore how to adapt and respond to children's needs, how to use assessment meaningfully and how to develop confident, consistent teaching across your team. There will be time to review examples, discuss challenges and deepen your understanding of how to make the approach work in your setting.

This half-day course shows you how to implement our Foundations Series at Reception. It’s highly recommended for all schools adopting Foundations, even those who have previously attended the two-day implementation training. This course:

  • Explains the Early Learning Goals in mathematics
  • Looks at how young children learn through doing and guided play
  • Examines how young children progress during their Reception year
  • Walks you through each component of the Foundations Series, including:
    • Examples of best practices
    • Suggestions for variation
    • Discussion of the pedagogical research that underpins the programme

This training is recommended for schools who have been using the Maths — No Problem! Programme for more than a year. We offer a range of follow-up training that takes you deeper into specific topics such as:

  • Bar modelling
  • Teaching fractions
  • Whole numbers
  • Differentiated instruction
  • Journalling
  • Assessment
  • Early years maths

Model lesson plus feedback

Our friendly, professional trainer will deliver a model lesson to your teachers. It’s a great way to see a mastery lesson in action. This is followed by a Q&A session on lesson delivery, including guidance on lesson planning and resources.

Lesson observation plus feedback

During a lesson observation, our trainer will watch your teachers deliver Maths — No Problem! lessons and offer immediate feedback followed by a Q&A session.
