Mathematical journalling provides pupils with an opportunity to communicate their ideas, explain their reasoning and make their mathematical thinking visible. But how do we develop this effectively across the primary years? What types of journals can support different purposes, and how do we help children move from simple recordings to deeper mathematical reflection?

In this practical 30-minute webinar, we will explore how journalling can be developed from the Early Years through to Year 6. We will examine different types of mathematical journals, consider how carefully chosen prompts can support pupils in articulating their thinking and explore ways to build journalling into everyday maths lessons.

Using examples from the Maths — No Problem! programme, we will consider how schools can develop a coherent approach to journalling that supports reasoning, communication and deeper mathematical understanding.
