Eastbury Community School

Barking and Dagenham, London

What makes Eastbury Community School's an Accredited School

Eastbury Community School’s journey with Maths — No Problem! grew from a fundamental belief that every single child can succeed in mathematics. The school aimed to build deep conceptual understanding, robust communication and everyday problem-solving skills across its primary classrooms.

The Maths — No Problem! framework is thoroughly embedded in the fabric of the school, transforming the approach to teaching with specialised vocabulary and structured support sentence stems. Through a rich array of manipulatives, students explore maths as an evolving dialogue. This environment fosters a resilient classroom community where pupils approach numerical challenges not as intimidating barriers, but with confidence, curiosity and high engagement.

School at a glance:

  • Two-form entry primary department, integrated within a wider 3–19 all-through school environment
  • Located within the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
  • High percentage of children who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL)
  • 91% of pupils achieve the Expected Standard in Key Stage 2 SATs mathematics
  • 46% of pupils achieve Greater Depth Standard (GDS) in maths outcomes

"Our maths results are absolutely exceptional and our children are competent mathematicians. As a headteacher, we always talk about the 100% mentality. And almost 100% of our children achieved, and that is due to Maths — No Problem! teaching our children to be fluent in mathematical concepts. So when it comes to a maths paper, they are able to answer questions with ease. Our children came out of their SATs saying that it was the easiest test that they have ever done. It was brilliant to see that they were filled with so much confidence."

– Headteacher, Eastbury Community School

In their own words

Our Maths — No Problem! journey

Our overarching maths strategy is that every child can succeed, regardless of their background or starting point. We teach maths to enable children to make sense of the world, developing flexibility, mental agility, and a true mathematical curiosity. When searching for a curriculum path, we wanted to step away from simply teaching strict maths procedures. We wanted a comprehensive scheme that championed deep, conceptual understanding, language immersion, active communication, and access to collaborative tools.

Introducing the mastery approach allowed us to shift our pedagogy toward deeper, slower learning that values process over a quick answer. Thanks to its structured vocabulary integration and sentence frames, Maths — No Problem! has been an incredible asset for our high population of EAL learners, ensuring that language is never a barrier to mathematical thinking.

Maths — No Problem! in our school

The transformation did not happen overnight. We’ve been on an expansive development journey with extensive teacher training, utilising input from Maths — No Problem! consultants to build our staff's long-term pedagogical confidence. Today, this consistency is visible across all classrooms.

Our pupils are equipped daily with workbooks, textbooks, and maths journals that empower them to explore independent problem-solving. This confidence this style of teaching builds is a direct result of fostering an atmosphere where students are taught to be fluent, mathematical deep thinkers. By targeting a "100% mentality" where no child is left behind, the overwhelming majority of our pupils hit the expected benchmark, with a phenomenal 46% pushing into Greater Depth Standard outcomes.

Maths leadership and partnership with other schools

Becoming an Accredited School serves as recognition of how far we have come, but it also opens doors for external collaboration. We look forward to opening our doors to show other schools how Maths — No Problem! shifts teaching and learning from simple instruction to deep, communicative mastery.
