What makes Math — No Problem! so effective is our emphasis on exploration. Students thrive when given space to explore without fear of making mistakes and to collaborate together. Exploration helps students develop deep understanding of math concepts through hands-on, real world problem-solving. Our program is based on research-based approaches to promote long-term retention of mathematical concepts and strong fluency.

How Math — No Problem! supports Building Student Success

Problem-solving is at the heart

Each Math — No Problem! lesson begins with the Explore task which utilizes inquiry-based learning, starting the day of math learning off with a hands-on, real world problem and strengthening students’ critical-thinking skills. Math problems are designed with variance to develop computational fluency.

Encourages strong mathematical reasoning

Students are able to articulate their reasoning through math journaling and lessons move beyond rote memorization. Lessons are designed to deepen understanding of mathematical concepts with the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract approach — a three-step learning system in which students build robust, relational understanding.

Builds communication and collaboration skills

Each lesson is centred around communication and collaboration with an emphasis on explorative discussions and group work. This teaches students strong communication skills and to learn from their peers and view problems from different perspectives.

The Core Competencies

Thinking

By applying their knowledge to a variety of routine and non-routine problems, students learn to break down problems into simpler steps and persevere in the face of difficulty to seek solutions, building their critical thinking skills.

Communication

Our lessons’ emphasis on problem-solving and reasoning encourages students to follow lines of enquiry, conjecture relationships and develop arguments using mathematical language so that every student is able to communicate their ideas with strong mathematical fluency.

Personal and Social

The Explore task and group work in each lesson encourages students to collaborate with one another to find solutions and view problems from other perspectives. Meanwhile math journals and independent work help children to express their reasoning in their own words and build their confidence.

By aligning closely with these core aims, Math — No Problem! ensures that students in British Columbia receive a comprehensive mathematics education that prepares them for both further academic study and real-world applications.

Uniquely Canadian

We pride ourselves on crafting our program to the students, rather than designing a one-size fits all. That’s why our Primary Series for British Columbia includes Canada-specific contexts, including indigenous content. Students can see themselves in Andre and Marie-Claude, as well as our cast of other characters, and see their world represented by the flora and fauna specifically selected from Canadian landscapes.

It completely challenged my expectations. The mathematical thinking and talk I’ve seen from pupils has been phenomenal.

We are finding our kids much more engaged in maths. The lower level students are much more engaged. The way the programme is set out, the group work and the use of hands on activities works so well and is so enjoyable to teach and learn. My kids in particular cheer every time I say we are doing maths.
