The Essentials of Teaching Maths Mastery

This course is intended for primary school teachers, maths leads, and senior leaders who are looking to ensure the successful implementation of the Maths — No Problem! Programme in their school. Participants will have an opportunity to understand key aspects of the programme and to be in a position to support their colleagues with its implementation. The lesson structure, key ideas, representations, and assessment and evaluation of the programme will be covered over the 3 days.
By completing this course, you will earn 18 credits towards the Qualification Programme.

Course Objectives

This teacher professional development course is designed to foster a deep understanding of:

  • The Maths — No Problem! lesson structure, along with the principles and theories that underpin it.
  • The key mathematical ideas, representations, and heuristics used throughout the programme.
  • Implementation of the programme in the classroom and across the school.
  • Assessment and evaluation from individual lessons to school-wide summative data.

This course aims to equip classroom teachers and maths leads with the skills necessary to implement and support the Maths — No Problem! Programme in their schools.

Who this is course intended for?

This course is intended for primary school teachers who are looking to improve their practice of teaching mathematics. It is designed to equip teachers with the skills, knowledge and mindset to be successful in the teaching of mathematics to mastery. Although not necessary, classroom experience in teaching mathematics to mastery is beneficial for this course. Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite for taking further advanced courses.

Craig Parkinson

Craig Parkinson is a trainer, consultant, and strengths-based coach with more than 20 years’ experience in education. After spending eight years as a Physics and Maths teacher, he moved into educational consultancy and has since worked with almost 12,000 teachers and school leaders across the UK and internationally, including in Mexico, the Netherlands, the UAE, Romania, Saudi Arabia, and Bermuda. As an accredited Maths — No Problem! trainer, Visible Learning consultant, and Gallup Certified CliftonStrengths Coach, Craig helps educators and leaders translate evidence-informed research into meaningful changes in practice. He is known for making complex ideas accessible, challenging assumptions with warmth and humour, and helping individuals and teams turn insight into impact.
